St Helena School

Introduction
St Helena is a comprehensive school with specialist status as a media arts college. It has over 1000 students aged 11-16. The school was opened in 1938, and at the time of building the total cost, including land, buildings and fittings, came to £46,799! The school is named after Colchester’s patron saint. St Helena was reported to be the daughter of Coel, a legendary king of Colchester in the third century. She was also the mother of Constantine the Great, the first Christian to rule the Roman Empire.

The school has various community projects in order to strengthen links with the community. Students are offered extra-curricular activities ranging from sports, music and drama to stop-motion animation, rock-climbing & strategy games. The school also has a media centre which houses a drama studio, media computer suite and a television/radio studio.
