Introduction
Sir Charles Lucas is a comprehensive foundation school with fewer than 1000 students aged between 11 – 16. In 2001 it was awarded the status of a performing arts college. The school was named after Sir Charles Lucas; He was knighted by King Charles in 1639 and appointed military governor of Richmond, Yorkshire in 1640. Lucas occupied Colchester in 1648 intending to recruit more troops but was captured and executed.
The school offers many creative and performing arts opportunities, there are various additional clubs and sports on offer to the pupils and the ‘Student Voice’ is gaining in influence. The preforming arts opportunities that are offered give the pupils a good grounding of appreciation of music, dance and theatre. It also allows them to bring a spritual vitality to learning. The school promotes good pupil-teacher relationships. |
