Introduction
At Basildon’s Pioneer New Model Special School, an extension has been built to provide specialist accommodation to the newly opened school.
“Pioneer is a special school catering for children and young people from 3 to 19. Students at the school have severe and complex learning difficulties and some have significant physical disabilities as well. Because of their needs our students require specialist staff to work with them and specialist spaces and equipment to allow them to achieve their full potential.
We have just moved to new purpose built premises, however, a number of areas are not provided. Among other things, BSF will provide a ‘virtual learning environment’ which will allow students to rehearse in as realistic and safe way as possible 'real life experiences' through the use of an ICT solution – think Star Trek Holodeck!! We also plan a range of facilities to enable our older students to prepare better for independence in adult life. These new facilities will not only extend what we offer students but will greatly improve the quality of provision and hopefully improve the quality of their adult lives.” Steve Horsted, Headteacher. |
