Representatives from Essex County Council and staff and pupils Cornelius Vermuyden School, including our Head teacher Mrs Skewes recently attended a Design Quality Indicator workshop.

Students were given the opportunity to view the plans for our new school and to ask questions. The students grilled the bidders with questions, and expressed their hopes and dreams for the future of their school.
All those involved were extremely impressed with the plans, which included a ‘fly through’ 3D presentation on the big screen. This really helped us to get inside the new school and see how it will work once the children are in their classrooms. All of the students and staff now can’t wait until they can transfer across to this fantastic new facility.
Students were also pleased to learn about the interim period, as the new school is being built on our site. They asked questions about any disruption to their learning during this period. We were all delighted to learn of the plans to build the new school away from the existing one, and therefore minimizing any disruption. We do of course benefit from the largest school grounds on Canvey Island and all in attendance were pleased to know that it will be business as usual at Cornelius Vermuyden throughout this exciting time.

Those in attendance included: Lauren Leonard-Day Yr7
Billy Rusz Yr 7
Elena Riches Yr 8
Joe Saddler Yr 8
Billy Hayes Yr 9
Amy Watson Yr 9

Billy Rusz Year 7, said the following about his day:
“I really enjoyed the day because I got to meet some new people and got to say what I would like the school to look like. I found it very interesting and exciting because one of the designs is going to become my school!”
